FLIGHT SCHOOL

Cape Fear Coastal Aviation takes a unique and holistic approach to pilot training, focusing on creating a personalized path for success with each student. We take into consideration each individual’s learning style, goals, and timeline. Our next-generation approach includes simulator-based training to prepare students for confident flight once they get behind the real controls—and it reduces the overall cost of training.

Our Private Pilot training course is a comprehensive program designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to obtain their Private Pilot License (PPL). It involves a combination of ground instruction lessons, simulation-based training, practical flight training, and hands-on experience to master essential aviation concepts, flight maneuvers, navigation techniques, and emergency procedures. Private Pilot training enables individuals to confidently pilot single-engine aircraft for personal use, providing them with the freedom to explore the skies and embark on exciting aerial adventures.
Our Instrument rating training course is an advanced aviation program focused on developing the skills and expertise required to safely operate an aircraft solely by reference to instruments, without relying on external visual cues. It is aimed at licensed pilots who wish to enhance their abilities and fly in challenging weather conditions or low visibility situations. Instrument Pilot training emphasizes instrument flight rules (IFR), including flight planning, navigation, instrument approaches, and precise aircraft control. It equips pilots with the proficiency to navigate through clouds, rely on sophisticated avionics, interpret flight instruments, and effectively communicate with air traffic control. This training increases overall aviation proficiency and allows pilots to fly in a wider range of weather conditions.
Our Commercial Pilot training is an intensive and comprehensive program designed to prepare individuals for a career as a professional pilot. It builds upon the skills acquired in private pilot training and focuses on developing advanced flight techniques, aeronautical knowledge, and operational proficiency. Commercial Pilot training includes both theoretical coursework and practical flight training, covering areas such as advanced navigation, advanced flight maneuvers, crew resource management, and emergency procedures. Additionally, aspiring commercial pilots gain experience in conducting commercial flight operations, including passenger handling, flight planning, and adhering to aviation regulations. This training equips pilots with the necessary skills and qualifications to work for commercial airlines, charter companies, or other aviation organizations, enabling them to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in aviation.
Our Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) training course is a specialized program designed for pilots who wish to become flight instructors. It provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and expertise to effectively teach and mentor aspiring pilots. CFI training involves a combination of theoretical lessons, practical flight instruction, and instructional techniques to ensure the highest level of instructional proficiency. Participants learn how to effectively communicate complex aviation concepts, demonstrate flight maneuvers, conduct ground briefings, and evaluate student performance. The training covers various instructional methodologies, teaching strategies, and regulatory requirements specific to flight instruction. CFI training equips pilots with the qualifications and capabilities to pass on their knowledge and experience, shaping the next generation of aviators while fostering a safe and competent aviation community.
Our Certificated Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) training course is an advanced program designed for certificated flight instructors who want to expand their teaching capabilities to include instrument flight instruction. CFII training focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and proficiency necessary to instruct pilots in flying solely by reference to instruments under instrument flight rules (IFR). It covers advanced instrument flight procedures, instrument approaches, navigation techniques, and precise aircraft control in a simulated or actual instrument flight environment. CFII training also emphasizes instructional techniques specific to instrument flight instruction, including effective communication, instrument scan patterns, and instrument procedures. By completing CFII training, certificated flight instructors can provide expert guidance and mentorship to aspiring pilots pursuing instrument flight ratings, enabling them to navigate safely and confidently in challenging weather conditions and low visibility situations.
Designed for individuals aiming to pursue a career as a professional airline pilot or captain, Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) training is the highest level of pilot training. Our ATP training course builds upon the skills and knowledge acquired in previous pilot training stages and focuses on developing advanced aeronautical knowledge, leadership abilities, and decision-making skills. The program covers a wide range of topics, including advanced aircraft systems, airline operations, crew resource management, high-altitude operations, and advanced flight planning. ATP training also includes extensive simulator training, flight proficiency checks, and assessments to ensure pilots are well prepared to handle complex flight scenarios and assume command of large commercial aircraft. Upon completion of ATP training and meeting the required flight experience, pilots can apply for an ATP certificate, enabling them to serve as pilots-in-command for commercial airlines and operate large transport category aircraft.
Our multi-engine training program is a specialized course designed to equip pilots with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate aircraft with multiple engines. It is typically undertaken after obtaining a private pilot license and focuses on transitioning from single-engine to multi-engine aircraft. Multi-engine training covers a range of essential topics, including engine management, aircraft systems, performance calculations, emergency procedures, and asymmetric flight operations (handling the aircraft in the event of an engine failure). Practical flight training is a significant component of the program, enabling pilots to master the intricacies of operating a multi-engine aircraft, including takeoff and landing procedures, coordinated flight, and advanced maneuvers. Multi-engine training expands the pilot’s capabilities, allowing for increased range, payload, and redundancy, making it a crucial step for those aspiring to pursue careers in commercial aviation or fly larger, more complex aircraft.
